Interstitial lung disease (ILD) is a rare complication of juvenile dermatomyositis (JDM). The aim of this study was to clarify the clinical features of JDM-associated ILD and to evaluate the efficacy of cyclosporin A (CSA).
We reviewed clinical records of 10 cases of JDM that were admitted to Hokkaido University Hospital between April 1990 and March 2001.

This study was performed to investigate the efficacy and safety of cyclosporin A (CsA) for the treatment of interstitial pneumonia (IP) associated with collagen diseases in Japan.
Questionnaires were sent to 36 hospitals specializing in collagen diseases.
Fifty-eight patients (7 polymyositis (PM), 19 dermatomyositis (DM), 7 systemic sclerosis (SSc), 7 rheumatoid arthritis (RA), 2 mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD), 1 systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and 1 Sjögren's syndrome (SS), 1 RA + SSc, 2 PM + SSc, 1 DM + SLE, and 10 idiopathic interstitial pneumonia (IIP) with IP were treated with CsA at 14 hospitals.

To assess the difference in clinical features and prognosis of patients with interstitial lung disease (ILD) comparing polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM).
Medical records of 28 ILD patients with PM/DM (16 PM-ILD, 12 DM-ILD) were reviewed retrospectively.
Serum CPK concentrations were significantly higher in PM-ILD than in DM-ILD.

We retrospectively examined the effect of combination therapy with prednisolone and cyclosporin A (CSA) for dermatomyositis (DM) presenting with acute/subacute interstitial pneumonia (A/SIP), the daily CSA dose, and the time from diagnosis of A/SIP to initiation of CSA treatment.
Subjects were 16 DM patients with A/SIP. Seven patients were treated initially with 1 mg/kg/day prednisolone.
