Adherence to HAART medication regimens is vital to maintaining suppression of HIV, but persons with HIV face many challenges to adhering consistently to HIV medication regimens. This is particularly true for persons who live in geographically-isolated areas or who have significant levels of cognitive compromise. A videophone-based version of Reynolds' HAART CARE (HC) telephone intervention for medication adherence was pilot-tested with 23 persons living with HIV residing in both urban and non-urban communities.

Unannounced home-based pill counts conducted in person or on the telephone are reliable and valid for monitoring medication adherence. However, expecting to have one's pills counted, organizing medications for pill counts, and increased attention from the person conducting the pill counts may have reactive effects and inadvertently improve adherence. The current study determined whether monthly unannounced pill counts conducted by telephone influence adherence over time.

To identify, based on the literature, people with dementia's potentials to manage an easy-to-use videophone, and to develop a videophone requirement specification for people with dementia.
The study is based on the Inclusive Design method, utilising the first two of four phases. Content analyses of literature reviews were used to identify users' potentials for managing a videophone and to gather recommendations regarding communication technology design for the target group.
