Malignancies of the parotid gland are relatively uncommon, accounting for only 3-6% of all head and neck cancers. Most of them are primary neoplasms, metastases are uncommon. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) represents 3% of adult malignancies, the clear cell type comprises up to 70% of all RCC.

Hereditary gingival fibromatosis (HGF) is a benign, non-hemorrhagic and fibrous gingival overgrowth that may cover all or part of the teeth. It typically interferes with speech, lip closure and chewing, and can also be a psychological burden that affects the self-esteem of patients. Owing to high genetic heterogeneity, genetic testing to confirm diagnosis is not justified.

His right oral hemimucosa showed extensive papillomatous lesions which were contiguous to the upper lip SN lesions. As for extracutaneous manifestations he suffered from cardiac, musculoskeletal and ocular alterations.

Lymphopenia can result from various factors, including viral infections, clinical interventions, or as a normal property of the fetal/neonatal period. T cells in a lymphopenic environment undergo lymphopenia-induced proliferation (LIP) to fill the available "niche" as defined by peptide-MHC and homeostatic cytokine resources. We recently reported systemic autoimmunity following reconstitution of the lymphoid compartment of Rag1mice with PD-1hematopoietic stem cells or by transfer of thymocytes, but not splenocytes, suggesting that programmed death-1 (PD-1) plays a crucial role in controlling recent thymic emigrants (RTE) and preventing autoimmunity upon their LIP.

The establishment of a reliable model for the study of Purkinje cells in vitro is of particular importance, given their central role in cerebellar function and pathology. Recent advances in induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) technology offer the opportunity to generate multiple neuronal subtypes for study in vitro. However, to date, only a handful of studies have generated Purkinje cells from human pluripotent stem cells, with most of these protocols proving challenging to reproduce.

Forensic dentistry plays a vital role in detection and resolution of crime, civil proceedings and personal identification. With ever-increasing demands placed upon law enforcement to provide sufficient physical evidence linking a perpetrator to a crime, it makes sense to utilize any type of physical characteristic to identify a suspect of an offense. The least invasive and cost-effective procedure among all methods of human identification is the study of lip prints and fingerprints.

Trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole (cotrimoxazole or TMP/SMX) is commonly used for the treatment of urinary or lower respiratory tract infections. A comprehensive review is presented of the world literature on adverse reactions to TMP/SMX since its first use in 1968, when concern was expressed about possible hematologic toxicity. The adverse reactions to TMP/SMX occur in approximately 1%-3% of persons in general population.

Blepharocheilodontic syndrome (BCDS) consists of lagophthalmia, ectropion of the lower eyelids, distichiasis, euryblepharon, cleft lip/palate and dental anomalies and has autosomal dominant inheritance with variable expression. We identified heterozygous variants in two genes of the cadherin-catenin complex, CDH1, encoding E-cadherin, and CTNND1, encoding p120 catenin delta1 in 15 of 17 BCDS index patients, as was recently described in a different publication. CDH1 plays an essential role in epithelial cell adherence; CTNND1 binds to CDH1 and controls the stability of the complex.

Thegene encodes a master regulator of epidermal commitment, development, and differentiation. Heterozygous mutations in the C-terminal domain of thegene can cause ankyloblepharon-ectodermal defects-cleft lip/palate (AEC) syndrome, a life-threatening disorder characterized by skin fragility and severe, long-lasting skin erosions. Despite deep knowledge of p63 functions, little is known about mechanisms underlying disease pathology and possible treatments.

Among the most important dysmorphic features of this condition are: a triangular shaped face with a small mandible, a prominent frontal eminence, a thin vermilion border with downward-pointing lip corners, clino- and brachydactyly of the 5th fingers as well as body asymmetry. The most well-known genetic mutations in this syndrome are: the 11p15 epimutation (20-60% patients) and the maternal uniparental chromosome 7 disomy present in 7% to 15% of patients.

Diseases of the lips.

Clin Dermatol 2017 Sep - Oct;35(5):e1-e14. Epub 2017 Nov 16.
Sophie A Greenberg, Bethanee J Schlosser, Ginat W Mirowski
Heath care providers should be comfortable with normal as well as pathologic findings in the lips, because the lips are highly visible and may display clinical manifestations of local, as well as systemic inflammatory, allergic, irritant, and neoplastic alterations. Fortunately, the lips are easily accessible. The evaluation should include a careful history and physical examination, including visual inspection, as well as palpation of the lips and an examination of associated cervical, submandibular, and submental nodes.

There is classically an equilibrium between the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems which is responsible for the maintenance of homeostasis. An imbalance of the ANS is observed in various pathologic conditions.

Delivery of neuroprotectants with liposomes has been shown to be effective for the treatment of ischemic stroke. We have recently revealed that intravenous administration of liposomal fasudil (Fasudil-Lip), a Rho-kinase inhibitor, prior to thrombolysis with tissue plasminogen activator (t-PA) can extend the narrow therapeutic time window (TTW) of t-PA. In the present study, we examined the influence of t-PA treatment on liposomal accumulation into the ischemic region and cerebroprotective effect of combined treatment with Fasudil-Lip and t-PA performed at the same timing after the onset of ischemia in middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO) prepared by photochemically induced thrombosis.

This tumor basically, originates from pillar structures and the involvement of the vermilion lip contrasts this concept so it is devoid of hair follicles and sweat glands. The exact pathogenesis of vermilion lip BCC is not clear but it has been postulated that the neoplasm originates from the pluripotential epithelial cells of the oral mucosa and epidermis.
