Fenestrated endovascular aneurysm repair (FEVAR) is an evolving technique to treat juxtarenal abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs). Catheterization of visceral and renal vessels after the deployment of the fenestrated main body device is often challenging, usually requiring additional fluoroscopy and multiple digital subtraction angiograms. The aim of this study was to assess the clinical utility and accuracy of a computed tomography angiography (CTA)-fluoroscopy image fusion technique in guiding visceral vessel cannulation during FEVAR.

We recently developed a therapeutic biopolymer composed of an elastin-like polypeptide (ELP) fused to vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) and showed long-term renoprotective effects in experimental renovascular disease after a single intra-renal administration. Here, we sought to determine the specificity, safety, efficacy, and mechanisms of renoprotection of ELP-VEGF after systemic therapy in renovascular disease. We tested whether kidney selectivity of the ELP carrier would reduce off-target binding of VEGF in other organs.

L-shaped kidney refers to a rare anomaly of the relative kidney positioning. Due to low prevalence, the literature on the co-occurrence of this anomaly with malignancy is lacking. And, if the diagnosis of a renal anomaly does not present difficulties, if a tumor is detected in such a kidney, even MSCT does not always help differentiate a pelvic tumor from a tumor of the renal parenchyma spreading to the pelvicalyceal system.

Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) with associated horseshoe kidney (HSK) poses a technical challenge when performing conventional open surgical repair because of possible complications including renal infarction, neuralgia, and collecting system disruption. Endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) is considered the first-line treatment for this pathology, allowing for aneurysm repair without isthmus bisection. However, whether to sacrifice commonly presenting aberrant renal arteries during EVAR is a point of controversy.

Based on a hypothesis that an intramolecular hydrogen bond was present in our lead series of picolinamide mGluNAMs, we reasoned that an inactive nicotinamide series could be modified through introduction of a fused heterocyclic core to generate potent mGluNAMs. In this Letter, we describe the synthesis and evaluation of compounds that demonstrate the viability of that approach. Selected analogs were profiled in a variety of in vitro assays, and two compounds were evaluated in rat pharmacokinetic studies and a mouse model of obsessive-compulsive disorder.

The neuritogenic cAMP sensor (NCS), encoded by thegene, links cAMP elevation to activation of extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) in neurons and neuroendocrine cells. Transducing human embryonic kidney (HEK)293 cells, which do not express Rapgef2 protein or respond to cAMP with ERK phosphorylation, with a vector encoding acDNA reconstituted cAMP-dependent ERK activation. Mutation of a single residue in the cyclic nucleotide-binding domain (CNBD) conserved across cAMP-binding proteins abrogated cAMP-ERK coupling, while deletion of the CNBD altogether resulted in constitutive ERK activation.

Polymerization and phase separation of proteins containing low-complexity (LC) domains are important factors in gene expression, mRNA processing and trafficking, and localization of translation. We have used solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance methods to characterize the molecular structure of self-assembling fibrils formed by the LC domain of the fused in sarcoma (FUS) RNA-binding protein. From the 214-residue LC domain of FUS (FUS-LC), a segment of only 57 residues forms the fibril core, while other segments remain dynamically disordered.

Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) with coexisting horseshoe kidney (HSK) can be difficult to repair, with variable blood supply from the aorta and iliac/mesenteric vessels. Endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR) has become a popular, less invasive approach to aneurysm care, and a chimney approach to EVAR (ChEVAR) has expanded its use to more complex anatomy. It is mandatory to maintain adequate perfusion to the HSK and visceral branches as part of the treatment of an AAA.

Horseshoe kidney is the most common congenital renal fusion anomaly with an incidence of 1 in 400-600 individuals. The most common type is fusion at the lower poles seen in greater than 90% of the cases, with the rest depicting fusion at the upper poles, resulting in an inverted horseshoe kidney. Embryologically, there are two theories hypothesizing the genesis of horseshoe kidney - mechanical fusion theory and teratogenic event theory.

A linear-shaped or "lying-down" adrenal gland is a sign often seen with the absence of the kidney in the renal fossa due to renal agenesis, renal ectopia, or horseshoe kidney. It is theorized that the presence of the kidney in the normal location within the renal fossa is important for the formation of the normal triangular inverted V or Y adrenal shape. There are exceptions to this rule whereby a kidney is missing from the renal fossa, yet a normal adrenal shape is present.
