A previously healthy 61-year-old Caucasian woman presented to the emergency department after collapsing at home with associated abdominal pain radiating to her back. An urgent CT angiogram was requested to rule out a ruptured aortic aneurysm. This showed a large 21 cm fat-containing lesion arising from the mid-pole of the left kidney, with an adjacent 4 cm perirenal haematoma.

Multilocular cystic renal cell carcinoma (MCRCC), which exhibits low-stage and low-grade characteristics, is a special type of RCC. MCRCC is extremely rare and generally develops at ages >50 years. We herein report a case of MCRCC in a 28-year-old man, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the youngest case reported worldwide to date.

Retroperitoneal liposarcoma is a rare neoplasm that often involves other organs and major blood vessels. Complete surgical resection with negative margins is the only potential curative treatment. Here, we report the case of a patient with a large retroperitoneum liposarcoma that was removed by resection of the descending abdominal aorta and infrahepatic inferior vena cava, right nephrectomy and pancreatoduodenectomy following creation of an extra anatomical femoro-femoral crossover bypass after left axillo-left femoral bypass.

Development of distant metastases from renal cell carcinoma (RCC) is a frequent occurrence and, in nearly 95% of the cases, secondary lesions present within 5 years following nephrectomy. We performed a left pneumonectomy for a peri-hilar lung mass in an 81-year-old man with history of kidney cancer, resected 37 years earlier. Histopathological examination revealed a solitary lung metastasis from RCC, relapsed after an extraordinary 37-year time interval.

Once used primarily in the identification of renal metastasis and lymphomas, various urological bodies are now adopting an expanded role for the renal biopsy. We sought to evaluate the role of the renal biopsy in a Canadian context, focusing on associated adverse events, radiographic burden, and diagnostic accuracy.
This retrospective review incorporated all patients undergoing ultrasound (US)/computed tomography (CT)-guided biopsies for T1 and T2 renal masses.

The Sellar Tumor: Metastasis or Chordoma?

J Craniofac Surg 2018 Jan 19. Epub 2018 Jan 19.
Lin Zhou, Daming Cui, Lijin Feng, Liang Gao
Chordomas are uncommon, locally invasive chordate tumors, which are mostly observed in the axial skeleton. Numerous papers have described similar patients around different anatomic locations; however, rare document previously reported that intracranial chordoma was associated with clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC). The authors report a 51-year-old male patient with a history of right radical nephrectomy for ccRCC presented to us with progressive blurred vision.

BACKGROUND Acute rejection is a common predisposing cause of allograft dysfunction in kidney transplantation. Recently, the B and T lymphocyte attenuator (BTLA)/herpes virus entry mediator (HVEM)/lymphotoxin (LIGHT)/CD160 pathway was found to be potentially involved in the regulation of T cell activation. This could mean that this pathway is involved in graft rejection in kidney transplantation; the present study aimed to explore this possibility.

Since the diagnosis is mostly after a radical nephrectomy, we recommend a percutaneous biopsy or cytology from the renal mass in patients who have features suggestive of a lymphoma. Partial nephrectomy (PN) is recommended as first-line treatment for cT1 stage kidney tumors because of a better renal function and probably a better overall survival than radical nephrectomy (RN). For larger tumors, PN has a controversial position due to lack of evidence showing good cancer control. The aim of this study was to compare the results of PN and RN in cT2a stage on overall survival and oncological results.

Increasingly, renal cell cancer is diagnosed because of an incidental finding of a renal mass on an imaging study. Incidentally discovered masses are more likely to be small and, if malignant, represent localized renal cell cancer. The imaging features of the tumor and patient characteristics inform the management options, which favor a nephron-sparing approach over radical nephrectomy.

It is the first study about IMT of the kidney in a patient with perinephric and periureteric fibrosis and we hold that fibroblast proliferation may be an intermediate status in oncogenesis of IMT. But further investigation is necessary in order to better clarify the relationship between fibroblast proliferation and IMT.
