Staphylococcus aureus is the most common causative organism in pediatric septic arthritis, with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) being responsible for a significant portion of these infections. Early identification and initiation of proper treatment may improve outcomes by minimizing potential morbidity. The purpose of this study was to identify variables obtained on initial patient presentation associated with MRSA septic arthritis.

Although synthetic and biologic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs are available, many patients with rheumatoid arthritis have a difficult-to-control disease and need other treatment options. Repository corticotropin injection (RCI) may alleviate symptoms and exacerbations in patients with refractory disease.
Nine patients with refractory rheumatoid arthritis were included in this study.

Age-related loss of muscle mass and function is associated with increased frailty and loss of independence. The mechanisms underlying the susceptibility of different muscle types to age-related atrophy are not fully understood. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are recognised as important signalling molecules in healthy muscle and redox sensitive proteins can respond to intracellular changes in ROS concentrations modifying reactive thiol groups on Cysteine (Cys) residues.

Axillary lymph nodes (ALNs) are often seen on chest computed tomography (CT) in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Early reports described lymphadenopathy as one of the systemic manifestations rather than regional lymphadenopathy secondary to drainage from the affected joints. Subsequently, the importance of the immunological events occurring in draining lymph nodes in the development of arthritis was documented.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is an autoimmune disease occurring in larger population, characterized by synovial inflammation followed by destruction of joint. Major concerned factor for cause of Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) has been related to oxidative stress due to environmental toxicity and immune imbalance. Reactive oxygen species (ROS) generated from macrophages commune series of oxidation at cellular and genetic level and leads to generation of inflammatory cytokines for provoking inflammation in RA.

Anti-MAA antibody (IgA, IgM, IgG) was measured using ELISA and banked serum from patients with RA (n = 284), osteoarthritis (OA, n = 330), spondyloarthropathy (SpA, n = 50), and systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE, n = 88) as well as healthy controls (n = 82). Anti-MAA antibody concentrations and the frequency of positivity were compared across groups.

Human serum albumin (HSA) - the most abundant plasma protein plays an important role in the transport of endogenous and exogenous molecules in the body. Its modifications have been implicated in a variety of pathological disorders. We have studied the interaction of HNE with HSA at a molecular level by docking experiment and the results suggest a strong interaction between HNE and HSA.

Commensal bacteria and their pathogenic components in the gastrointestinal tract and oral cavity may play pathological roles in autoimmune diseases. To study the possible involvement of bacterial pathogens in autoimmune diseases, IgG and IgA antibodies against pathogenic components produced by three strains of commensal bacteria, Escherichia coli-lipopolysaccharide (E. coli-LPS), Porphyromonas gingivalis-LPS (Pg-LPS) and peptidoglycan polysaccharide (PG-PS) from Streptococcus pyogenes, were determined by an improved ELISA system for sera from two groups of patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), who met rapid radiographic progression (RRP) criteria and non-RRP, and compared to normal (NL) controls.

Moment-to-moment adjustment of cerebral blood flow (CBF) via neurovascular coupling has an essential role in maintenance of healthy cognitive function. In advanced age, increased oxidative stress and cerebromicrovascular endothelial dysfunction impair neurovascular coupling, likely contributing to age-related decline of higher cortical functions. There is increasing evidence showing that mitochondrial oxidative stress plays a critical role in a range of age-related cellular impairments, but its role in neurovascular uncoupling remains unexplored.

Enterobacterial components in the joints of patients are believed to contribute to a perpetuating inflammation leading to a reactive arthritis (ReA), a condition in which microbial agents cannot be recovered from the joint. At present, it is unclear whether nucleic acids from Shigella spp. are playing a pathogenic role in causing not only ReA but also other forms of arthritis.

Surface defects have a central position in diagnosis of articular pathology. Recognizing the limitations of standard radiologic techniques and those imposed by positioning and averaging artifacts on CT evaluation, direct visualization of surface defects was pursued to identify disease characteristics that would facilitate interpretation of radiologic findings. Epi-illumination surface microscopy was utilized to examine macroscopically recognized articular surface defects in individuals in the Hamann-Todd, Terry, and Huntington human skeletal collections with previously verified diagnoses of rheumatoid arthritis, spondyloarthropathy, juvenile inflammatory arthritis (JIA), calcium pyrophosphate deposition disease (CPPD), gout, metastatic cancer, multiple myeloma, septic arthritis, tuberculosis, fungal arthritis, histiocytosis and sickle cell anemia (Rothschild and Rothschild Clin Infect Dis 20(5):1402-1408, 1995; Rothschild et al.

Serum erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) and C-reactive protein (CRP) are commonly used for the diagnosis of persistence of infection after the first stage of 2-stage revision arthroplasty for periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). As both ESR and CRP are markers of systemic inflammation, the utility of these tests to monitor infection clearance in patients with inflammatory arthritis is unclear.
From 2001 to 2016, 44 two-stage revision total hip or knee arthroplasties in patients with an inflammatory arthritis diagnosed by a rheumatologist were identified.

Skeletal muscle frommice is characterized by increased Nox2 ROS, altered microtubule network, increased muscle stiffness, and decreased muscle/respiratory function. While microtubule de-tyrosination has been suggested to increase stiffness and Nox2 ROS production in isolated single myofibers, its role in altering tissue stiffness and muscle function has not been established. Because Nox2 ROS production is upregulated prior to microtubule network alterations and ROS affect microtubule formation, we investigated the role of Nox2 ROS in diaphragm tissue microtubule organization, stiffness and muscle/respiratory function.

Inflammatory bone diseases, including rheumatoid arthritis, periodontitis and peri-implantitis, are associated not only with the production of inflammatory cytokines but also with local oxidative status, which is defined by intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS). Osteoclast differentiation has been reported to be related to increased intracellular ROS levels in osteoclast lineage cells.
