The atrial appendages are a tissue reservoir for cardiac stem cells. During on-pump coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery, part of the right atrial appendage can be excised upon insertion of the right atrial cannula of the heart-lung machine. In the operating room, the removed tissue can be easily cut into micrografts for transplantation.

Amiodarone is an effective and widely used antiarrhythmic drug with many possible adverse effects including hypercholesterolaemia and hepatotoxicity.
Our aim was to evaluate how long-term amiodarone treatment affects cholesterol metabolism.
The study population consisted of 56 cardiac patients, of whom 20 were on amiodarone (amiodarone + group) and 36 did not use the drug (amiodarone - group).

Ventricular tachyarrhythmias are characteristic of giant cell myocarditis, but their true incidence, predictors, and outcome are unknown.
Our work involved 51 patients with giant cell myocarditis (35 women) aged 52±12 years. Their medical records were reviewed for history, results of laboratory and imaging studies, and occurrence of serious cardiac events, including life-threatening ventricular tachyarrhythmias.
