The effectiveness of tacrolimus (FK506) for the promotion of nerve regeneration is known. However, at present, due to the fact that systemic application may lead to opportunistic infections and tumors, and that the treatment of peripheral nerve injury with systemic immunosuppression is not generally accepted, FK506 has not been widely used for the treatment of simple or peripheral nerve injury. We report a case of pulmonary adenofibroma, a rare benign soft-tissue tumor characterized by a combination of glandular and spindle stromal elements, in a 55-year-old man. Since deregulation of cellular responses to stress contributes to tumor growth and resistance to chemotherapy, hSMG-1 is a potential target for cancer treatment. From our screening efforts, we have identified pyrimidine derivatives as hSMG-1 kinase inhibitors.
