Early-phase clinical trials in patients with critical limb ischemia (CLI) have shown positive results of mononuclear cell therapy. The current meta-analysis investigated whether cluster of differentiation (CD) 34mononuclear cell therapy (CD34MCT) is effective for no-option CLI. Ten randomized controlled clinical studies of CD34MCT for no-option CLI with 479 patients were identified and analyzed for pooled results.

Paroxysmal kinesigenic dyskinesia (PKD) and epilepsy are thought to have a shared genetic etiology. PRRT2 has been identified as a causative gene of both disorders. In this study, we aim to explore the potential novel causative gene in a PRRT2-negative family with three individuals diagnosed with PKD or genetic epilepsy with febrile seizures plus (GEFS+).

In order to deal with pollution of organic dyes, magnetic Fe3O4 nanospheres (NPs) with an average diameter of 202 ± 0.5 nm were synthesized by a solvothermal method at 200 °C, and they can efficiently degrade organic dyes (methylene blue (MB), rhodamine B (RhB) and xylenol orange (XO)) aqueous solutions (20 mg/L) within 1 min. Based on this Fenton reagent, Fe3O4 NPs/biomass composite degradation column was made using sawdust as substrate, and it can efficiently degrade organic dyes continually.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are a class of long noncoding RNAs with a closed loop structure that regulate gene expression as microRNA sponges. CircRNAs are more enriched in brain tissue, but knowledge of the role of circRNAs in temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) has remained limited. This study is the first to identify the global expression profiles and characteristics of circRNAs in human temporal cortex tissue from TLE patients.

In this paper, a new memristor-based chaotic system is designed, analyzed, and implemented. Multistability, multiple attractors, and complex riddled basins are observed from the system, which are investigated along with other dynamical behaviors such as equilibrium points and their stabilities, symmetrical bifurcation diagrams, and sustained chaotic states. With different sets of system parameters, the system can also generate various multi-scroll attractors.

Emulsion filled protein (EFP) gels were prepared through a cold-set gelation process using denatured protein, and the effects of fat substitutes on the texture and volatile release of EFP gels were investigated. Pre-heating determined the denature degree of protein structure, and higher heating intensity resulted in higher viscosity of the emulsions, and larger storage modulus (G') of the corresponding gels. Oil-reduced EFP gels (15% sunflower oil) were prepared with the addition of fat substitutes (medium chain triglyceride-MCT, maltodextrin, or guar gum), and they showed different properties from the full-oil counterpart (20% sunflower oil).

Effective treatment of rheumatoid arthritis can be mediated by native chicken type II collagen (nCCII), recombinant peptide containing nCCII tolerogenic epitopes (CTEs), or a therapeutic DNA vaccine encoding the full-length CCOL2A1 cDNA. As recombinant CCII (rCCII) might avoid potential pathogenic virus contamination during nCCII preparation or chromosomal integration and oncogene activation associated with DNA vaccines, here we evaluated the importance of propeptide and telopeptide domains on rCCII triple helix molecular assembly. We constructed pC- and pN-procollagen (without N- or Cpropeptides, respectively) as well as CTEs located in the triple helical domain lacking both propeptides and telopeptides, and expressed these in yeast Pichia pastoris host strain GS115 (his4, Mut) simultaneously with recombinant chicken prolyl-4-hydroxylase α and β subunits.

Herein we report a general and novel strategy for high-throughput photoelectrochemical (PEC) enzymatic bioanalysis on the basis of enzyme-initiated quinone-chitosan conjugation chemistry (QCCC). Specifically, the strategy was illustrated by using a model quinones-generating oxidase of tyrosinase (Tyr) to catalytically produce 1,2-bezoquinone or its derivative, which can easily and selectively be conjugated onto the surface of the chitosan deposited PbS/NiO/FTO photocathode via the QCCC. Upon illumination, the covalently attached quinones could act as electron acceptors of PbS quantum dots (QDs), improving the photocurrent generation and thus allowing the elegant probing of Tyr activity.

Aggregating evidence suggests that genetic determinants play a pivotal role in the pathogenesis of the congenitally bicuspid aortic valve (BAV). BAV is of pronounced genetic heterogeneity, and the genetic components underlying BAV in an overwhelming majority of patients remain elusive. In the current study, the whole coding exons and adjacent introns, as well as 5' and 3' untranslated regions of the GATA4 gene, which codes for a zinc-finger transcription factor crucial for the normal development of the aortic valve, were screened by direct sequencing in 150 index patients with congenital BAV.

Advances in mobile networks and low-power electronics have driven smart mobile medical devices at a tremendous pace, evoking increased interest in household healthcare, especially for those with cardiovascular or respiratory disease. Thus, flexible battery-free pressure sensors, with great potential for monitoring respiration and heartbeat in a smart way, are urgently demanded. However, traditional flexible battery-free pressure sensors for subtle physiological signal detecting are mostly tightly adhered onto the skin instead of working under the pressure of body weight in a noncontact mode, as the low sensitivity in the high-pressure region can hardly meet the demands.

One of the earliest events in cellular mechanotransduction is often an increase in intracellular calcium concentration associated with intracellular calcium waves (ICWs) in various physiologic or pathophysiologic processes. Although cavitation-induced calcium responses are believed to be important for modulating downstream bioeffects such as cell injury and mechanotransduction in ultrasound therapy, the fundamental mechanisms of these responses have not been elucidated. In this study, we investigated mechanistically the ICWs elicited in single HeLa cells by the tandem bubble-induced jetting flow in a microfluidic system.

The mechanisms responsible for cardiac damage in the early stages of metabolic syndrome (MetS) remain unknown. Mitochondria are intimately associated with cellular myofibrils, with the cytoskeleton functioning as a linkage coordinator, and closely associated to the calcium release sites of the sarcoplasmic reticulum (SR). Objective: We hypothesized that early MetS is characterized by mitochondria-related myocardial damage, associated with altered cytoskeletal-mitochondria-SR interaction.
